Out in the Storm
Got in some Cross Country Skiing this past weekend, which was fantastic. It is a great total body workout, I’m out in the wilderness, and I get to go down hills. Fun! I started a Vimeo account to post some videos of the skiing- check em out!

The Last One
I went for my last run around the park with my running buddy today. She leaves for LA January 20th and since we’ll be in NH next weekend I won’t get another run in.
It has been great to have someone to do longer runs with, as it gets me out there and running. When I was unemployed and going out of my mind, having a run around the park every Wednesday to look forward to was...
Long Update
I got in 2 spinning classes this week which was great. The morning I wanted to run I was foiled by rain, and I’m hoping my 6 mile run set for Sunday isn’t foiled by snow. I actually really like running in the snow, but my running partner called me a “crazy NH girl” for it. Haha.
I got the email about my first event of the season! The mini tri as I like to call it is...
New Gear!
So, I put on all my new gear yesterday and headed out into the 10 degree air for a run! My new pants kept me nice and warm, but not too hot and the two Nike winter weather running tops were great! I was the perfect temp which definitely helps since I think the cold slows me down. It was great to get out in the cold air and feel my body working, and I had a feeling that the cars who passed me...
So I’m all geared up now for winter running, and just in time because it is really starting to feel like Winter in NY! Tuesday I got in another weekly run with Andrea, and even with the holiday tired and me not having run 6 miles in weeks, we still did the loop in 53 minutes! I really think I’ve become faster than I used to be, and I can’t even help it! A week prior I went out...

Where have I been?
Well, I got offered a job mid week, and then started it the next week. That brought on fitting in lots of plans before working full time again, and then adjusting to a new schedule.
The lowlights were that the pool has been closed at my gym which means no swimming lately.
I have had little to no energy after work so getting to the gym has been hard.
The highlights are first and foremost that...
A new week
While last week wasn’t the best in terms of sticking to the schedule, I’m confident this upcoming one will be better. Matt will be heading to work, so I won’t have many excuses to not work out. I’ll be alone, all day, no one to distract me, and hopefully I can keep to a schedule.
I kicked it in to gear this weekend, making sure I worked out Friday-Sunday. It is a good...
ugh
This week has been bad. My allergies have been getting the best of me and I haven’t been sticking to exercise, let alone the training schedule. Today I’m supposed to Run 50 minutes and Swim for 40. We’ll see how that goes. Maybe writing here that I’m going to do it will make me… I hope so!
Just joined NYRR! Here’s to lots more races with them and maybe even joining up with some people for running support. Had two runs at home so far, and mostly stuck to the training schedule this week. Woohoo! It is going to be hard to keep running outside especially when the weather is like today. ick.

So, my first winter training week has passed. I sort of followed the schedule:
Monday- Run/Swim- Didn’t work out
Tuesday Bike/Strength Train- Spinning
Wednesday Run/Swim- Ran around the park (it was COOOLD, but a good run)
Thursday Bike/Strength Train- Spinning
Friday Run/Swim- Elliptical (I felt kind of sick, so I’m glad I got there at all)
Saturday Off- Ran and Swum!
Sunday...
4 Miler
I ran the NYRR 4 Mile race to support God’s Love We Deliver. It was my first NYRR race, so the corraling was new to me. I started out with a friend who wanted to do 9 minute miles, she was a little slower than that, and a little slower than I wanted to run. She told me to go on ahead after 2 miles.
I know the park so well now that the race seemed like a piece of cake to me. I took off...
Damn! I just wrote a whole post and lost it- damn damn damn.
Here goes again:
I did it! I’m a 1/2 marathoner! The race was great, hard, but great! I ran with Mom most of the time, except for about 2 miles when I was a bit faster than her. She caught up with me when I stopped to start my knee stretching. They were really hurting for most of the race, but I think the stretching helped...
What is it with running the fastest when I’m the most tired? Yesterday Andrea and I did the park in 53 minutes again, and we were both borderline let’s call the run off! We think part of it was just wanting to get it over with. As we were closing in on the last couple of miles we were definitely booking it, but it felt okay, which is great.
The park was at its peak, all the trees...
Faster, Stronger
I definitely feel and see myself getting faster and stronger. I ran 8:20 minute miles easily tonight at the gym. I remember really struggling at 7 setting on the treadmill a few months ago, and now it is a piece of cake.
Sweet!
Fall? Really?
Another warm running day, which suits me just fine. I love my new Lululemon seaweed shirt, it is great to run and spin in. It wicks and fits perfectly.
I ran my first solo long run today- 9+ miles in 85 minutes. I felt great, until about 6 miles in when my knees started to hurt. I stopped a couple of times for quick stretches, and right near the end the pain subsided, but then came back...

So that last 3 weeks in a row I’ve run the park with an old co-worker. She’s a 1/2 marathoner and a fast runner, so running with her is a good work out for me to build my strength.
The first week I felt great, and the run went by really quickly. We had a lot to catch up on and I managed to keep up with her pace. We did the 6+ish miles in 54 minutes. The second week, was a little...
9 miles!
We went out today, the classic cold fall day, planning to run 8 miles. As we neared the end, I figured we only needed .2 more to get 8.5 and I wanted to run across the resevoir instead of walk so we’d get there faster. My knees hurt at the end, and stretching really helped- but I can tell they’re going to be sore tomorrow. After getting home and sitting down to mapmyrun.com I...
6 Miler
Wednesday I met up with a friend who does 1/2’s all the time for a run around the park. She’s a fast runner, so I warned her at the beginning that I wouldn’t be as fast as her, she agreed to slow down, but we still kept a good clip. We finished the park run in just about 54 minutes. It went by really quickly with all our chatting and her pushing me to keep pace. It was...
1/2 the 1/2
Ran around the park and then some this afternoon. My knees felt like they might explode, but we made it- we being Matt, my knees and I. Could I have done it again, yes. And that feels good. I wish I could say it was 7- but it was 6.8. Close enough!
It was gorgeous running in the park today, the perfect running weather. Despite the sun glaring in our eyes as we ran the West Side I...
A long weekend with no plans ahead of me, much like my weeks. Guess I’ll have to do some running!
Wow
It has been awhile- we’ll see where this goes and if I’ll keep posting stuff here. I’m supposedly in training for a 1/2 marathon, and I sort of am… if I kick it up a notch or so- you’ll hear about it!

5 things I love about running in Central Park
1. Running up the Mall, it is just so darn majestic each and every time
2. Feeling part of something bigger
3. Watching fireflys while I stretch
4. Seeing the sun set at every angle running around the resevoir
5. Passing people, lots of people
Tri Training Weeks 11 & 12
Week 11 was hardcore- it ended with a 6.5 mile run and 30 minute swim followed by my surprise bridal shower to which I walked in soaked in my towel and bathing suit :) I was exhausted to say the least and thankful for the “easy” week 12 on the schedule- I took it even easier and only worked out 3 days that week.
I’m kicking it in to high gear now, that hilly tri in my near near...

I love that last line, “beauty and grace are performed whether or not we will or sense them. The least we can do is try to be there.”
Tri Training Weeks 9 & 10
Wow, all I do is workout.
My first heavy training week including brick day was great. I did the long bike and the long run on the weekend and was really looking forward to another week of it, then I got a stomach virus.
I almost made up for the missed workouts over the weekend in NH with my Mom who is training for this too, lots of doubles and a great brick where we ran to a pond, swam it twice...
Anxiety, my old friend. Welcome back. Now get outta here so I can enjoy my long weekend!

Tri Training Weeks 7&8
Wow, it is now less than two months away and we’re getting in to some serious training.
Last week was fairly intense- with some longer runs and a very long bike ride. I only swam once and didn’t do the long run on Father’s Day- but otherwise it was a good week.
This week I only skipped one swim, and stuck to the program- it was probably easier since it was a lighter week.
